Enjoy the illumination of Tokyo Station
Tokyo is a big city, and Tokyo Station is the gateway to this megacity. If you arrive at Tokyo Station at night, you may want to see the station light up from the Marunouchi area. A brick station building stands out in Tokyo at night, surrounded by the surrounding buildings.
Tokyo Station is the largest station in Japan and is known for having the most platforms in the country. It boasts 10 Shinkansen train platforms, including the Tokaido Shinkansen, Tohoku Shinkansen, Joetsu Shinkansen, and Hokuriku Shinkansen. Additionally, 18 conventional train lines serve it, as well as the Marunouchi subway line.
It is the terminal station of the Shinkansen for those who come to Tokyo from rural areas, and many travellers from overseas will head to Tokyo Station from Narita International Airport. The station building, which opened in 1914, is a European-style brick building.
It is said that the station was designed with reference to Amsterdam’s central station and London’s terminals, but it is not certain. However, lots of Japanese architects studied European architecture at the beginning of the 20th century, so obviously it is a European style of building.
The night view of the buildings is beautiful. From Marunouchi, you can see the coexistence of old-fashioned station buildings and buildings. The illuminated station building is very beautiful.
